PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares a draft of general ledger journal entries including supporting backup documentation for review and approval of the accountant.
  • Analyze Balance Sheet Accounts on a periodic basis and recommend to the accountant any balance adjustments.
  • Assist the accountant in the preparation of periodic and year end account analysis for auditors and external regulatory agencies.
  • Process the recoding of payroll payments to different budget codes when needed based on staff movements.
  • Prepare the daily cash receipt control log and ensure that cash receipts (including electronic payments) are properly reconciled and classified prior to review by the accountant.
  • Responsible for maintaining automated accounting system records related to automated payment information for Southern Westchester BOCES vendors and retirees. Research and resolve any payments that are rejected from being processed.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly benefits postings. Work with the Benefits Office to ensure the accuracy of record prior to posting.
  • Utilize automated accounting system to assist the accountant in preparing state reporting requirements related to the submission of BOCES aid documents to the New York State Education Department. Assist the accountant in preparing and submitting high-cost report documents to all participating districts.
  • Be the backup support person in the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll departments. Assist those departments with accounting issues/procedural questions.
