PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach concepts and skills in the automotive industry such as, but not limited to: engine re-building, tune up, lubrication, ignition, wheel/tire balancing, alignment, fuel systems, transmissions/transaxles, chassis and body, electrical systems, brakes, suspensions and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning and heating, and other related automotive applications.
  • Identify student needs and work with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Teaching relevant and up-to-date industry standards in the automotive industry to students in a hands-on and dynamic manner
  • Deliver established course curriculum and hands-on skills based on program requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor classroom protocols, safety rules, and expectations for all automotive related activities, equipment and tools used in the program; maintain classroom discipline; utilize effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive, culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to function in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
  • Establish partnerships with local businesses.
  • Deliver performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following NYSED curriculum guidelines.
  • Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in the automotive industry lectures in theory, techniques, and terminology.
  • Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning objectives.
  • Attend staff meetings and training per requirements of School Principal and SW BOCES.
  • Update and maintain industry relevant Employability Profiles.
  • Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors regarding individual pupil progress.
  • Administer assessments and record assessment data-monitor, grade and evaluate students’ progress. Provide grades for report cards.
  • Co-chair advisory committee meetings, actively engage in the CTE re-approval process and maintain solid relationships with post-secondary and industry partners.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the building or district.
