PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Nursing Assistant curriculums skills and knowledge, including theory and clinical skills, to provide pupils with high-level training which will prepare them for college or a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Develop and plan high-quality, rigorous lessons which maximize instructional time, are relevant to student learning objectives and are in alignment with the CCTC, CDOS and The Next Generation Learning Standards.
  • Incorporate health care skills and processes into classroom and clinical lessons.
  • Establish partnerships with local health care facilities and lead student groups on clinicals.
  • Provide individual and group instruction regarding skills that are required for a health care setting.
  • Instruct pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools and equipment as it relates to a health setting.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment as per the established clinical policies.
  • Maintains contacts with health care community professionals to keep informed of innovations and job requirements that must be reflected in the curriculum to develop marketable skills as required by prospective employers.
  • Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors regarding individual pupil progress.
  • Identify student needs and work with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Work in conjunction with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to create a variety of Work-Based Learning experiences.
  • May share in the sponsorship of student activities and club activities. Sponsorship of activities would include preparing students for Skills USA and HOSA Competitions.
  • Assist in district follow-up studies and evaluations of programs and post-graduation data.
  • Evaluate and assess each pupil’s performance utilizing Clinical Skills Performance Record Evaluation Checklist and provide feedback.
  • Act as a liaison with the NYS DOH to ensure that the Nursing Assistant program meets operational guidelines.
  • Collaborate with industry partners and academic consultants to ensure that the program’s curriculum maps reflect current health care skills and academic requirements.
  • Prepare the students to take the Prometric Examination that will lead to a Technical Endorsement and/or Industry Certification.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
