PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a new Library Media Center including selection of materials, resources, and digital databases to serve all Center for Special Services schools and campuses.
  • Set up systems and structures to manage and monitor CSS Library Media Center. Collaborate with CSS administrators for budgeting, ordering, and inventorying resources.
  • Contribute to the culture of reading across CSS programs and campuses by identifying appropriate resources and tools, including assistive and instructional technology, to create greater access to reading materials, including those for research and community-based opportunities.
  • Work directly with students for Library/Media Studies classes that are appropriate and accessible for all students’ reading and developmental levels.
  • Ensure a Culturally Responsive and diverse library and media collection.
  • Develop partnerships with classroom teachers, related service providers, clinicians, and principals to develop library curriculum that promotes interdisciplinary learning.
  • Provide direct instruction and/or push into classrooms and work side-by-side with classroom teachers and students.
  • Connect with a wide audience by growing CSS existing digital presence (school and Center websites and social media platforms) may include blog posts, webinars, and newsletters.
  • Build relationships with SEPTA (Special Education Parent-Teacher Association)
  • Seek resources through the SLS Library Council, participate in professional learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the SWBOCES Center for Professional Learning Supervisor of the School Library Systems
  • Other responsibilities appropriate to the role of Library Media Specialist
