QUALIFICATIONS

• New York State teaching certification in Physical Education.

• Prior training and experience in teaching adaptive physical education.

• Thorough understanding of New York State Physical Education Learning Standards.

• Knowledge of Special Education instructional strategies and the continuum of services available to students with disabilities.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate and serve as an integral member of a team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serves as a resource to school staff members on a formal or informal basis regarding speech, language and hearing programs which may include providing Professional Development for staff on speech and language disorders and their relation to student communication and learning;
• Plans and implements a systematic and evidence-based therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of students with speech and language disabilities in accordance with IEP;
• Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments; assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate;
• Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate;
• Documents and maintain thorough and detailed data and records of the speech and language program provided to each student in compliance with each IEP as well as all local, state and federal procedures.

• 8:1:2 class supporting students with Autism Spectrum Needs.
• Identify specific student learning challenges; develop, design, and implement differentiated lessons and programs to address these challenges.
• In collaboration with instructional teams, prepare student IEP’s and monitor progress.
• Work collaboratively with the site teams to identify and support students academically, socially and emotionally.
• Collaborate with all related-service providers and clinicians to identify and provide opportunities for students to explore life and career goals.
• Support students and families throughout the process of transitioning to adult and post-secondary programs.
• Collaborate with colleagues in support of students in their daily routines and learning opportunities including classwork, vocational preparation, interactions, and communication.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
• Participate in intake process for students seeking admission to instructional programs.
• Contribute to the planning of student support through the Child Study Team process.

• Develop and implement a high quality, up-to-date technology education curriculum, which students can apply to their academic learning and their lives beyond school.
• Promote students’ comprehensive understanding of the uses and application of technology.
• Design real-life, engaging learning experiences that employ technology and implement units of study aligned with technology standards.
• Make program and instructional recommendations for growth and provide input for the Southern Westchester BOCES District Technology Plan.
• Develop, design, and implement differentiated lessons and programs to address specific student learning challenges.
• As requested, collaborate with instructional teams in the preparation of student IEP’s and BIP’s.
• Work collaboratively with building-level teams to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and related-service providers to identify and provide opportunities for students to explore life and career goals.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the support of students in their endeavors to maintain satisfactory classwork, homework, and socialization.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress on a regular basis.
