PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Pathways to Education curriculum, including educational theory, human development, and instructional strategies, to prepare students for college-level teacher education programs or immediate entry into educational support roles.
  • Develop and plan high-quality, rigorous lessons which maximize instructional time, are relevant to student learning objectives, and are in alignment with the CCTC, CDOS, and The Next Generation Learning Standards.
  • Expose students to the breadth of the education field, including roles in K-12 instruction, special education, school counseling, educational administration, and corporate training.
  • Incorporate modern pedagogical skills into classroom instruction, such as lesson planning, classroom management techniques, and the use of educational technology.

  • Instruct pupils in professional ethics, mandated reporting, and safety precautions required when working with minors in a variety of educational settings.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment that models a professional classroom atmosphere.
  • Maintain contact with industry professionals to stay current on educational innovations (such as Social-Emotional Learning and Culturally Responsive initiatives) to ensure the curriculum meets modern workforce needs.
  • Identify student needs and work with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs, modeling the "differentiation" students are learning about.
  • Work in conjunction with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to create a variety of experiences, including "student teaching" simulations and classroom placements.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance using portfolios, lesson plan rubrics, and observation checklists to provide actionable feedback. Use the Student Learning Management System to input student grades.
  • Prepare students for Industry Certifications, such as the NYS Teacher Assistant Certification (ATAS) and others.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
