Job Description

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a member of the Southern Westchester BOCES Executive Team and reports directly to the Deputy District Superintendent/Chief Operating Officer.
  • Provides visionary oversite and strategic guidance for all student-based programs, including Special Services, Career Services, and Adult and Community Services.
  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of all services and resources in collaboration with district, state, and regional partners.
  • Provide direct supervision for the Director of Special Services, the Director of Career Services, and the Director of Adult and Community Services.
  • Keeps informed of, interprets, and ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies related to student services.
  • Attends all Board meetings and other meetings as required. Prepares materials and reports to the Board as directed by the District Superintendent and Deputy District Superintendent.
  • Assists in the review and preparation of Board policies and SWBOCES regulations related to student services.
  • Prepares and submits reports and other documents to NYSED as required by the District Superintendent and Deputy District Superintendent.
  • Develops annual goals that are aligned with the SWBOCES Mission, Vision, Core Values and Priority Areas.
  • Initiates and assists in the development of department goals that are in alignment with the SWBOCES Mission, Vision, Core Values and Priority Areas.
  • Works cooperatively with leaders of the other administrative divisions in integrating and coordinating individual efforts into a unified program for the BOCES.
  • Serves as the New York State Regional Testing Compliance Liaison. 
  • Acts as a liaison between SWBOCES and component school districts as well as community and governmental agencies as appropriate.
  • Serves as the SWBOCES Chief Emergency Officer, providing leadership and oversite for all safety-related matters.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in BOCES-wide committees, including but not limited to, the Professional Development Plan Team, BOCES-wide Safety Team, Regional Crisis Response Team, the Mentoring Committee, and the Wellness Planning Team.
  • Provides oversite and ensures training requirements for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Supports (TCIS).
  • Participates in Collective Bargaining negotiations for all instructional units.
  • Accepts from the District Superintendent and Deputy District Superintendent such responsibilities as they choose to delegate and assumes full responsibility for discharging them.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Certification as a School District Leader or Permanent Certification as a School District Administrator.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or other central office administrative position related to student services in a school district and/or a BOCES.
  • Experience as a building-level administrator preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of New York State public school initiatives, federal and state education regulations, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of education law, CoSer regulations, and curriculum, instruction, and assessment trends.
  • Proven ability in fiscal management with experience in business practices and budget processes.
  • Experience in managing large and complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
