Job Description

Are you passionate about data privacy and well-versed in the latest data privacy regulations? We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable individual to lead our Data Privacy team.

 

What you need to succeed:

  • In-depth understanding of data privacy laws and regulations, including New York State Education Law 2-d, Part 121 regulations, FERPA, COPPA, and other State and Federal privacy laws.
  • A proactive approach to data privacy and security, continuous learning, and adaptation to new privacy regulations.
  • Ability to stay current with the rapidly evolving cybersecurity threat landscape and develop resources to mitigate these threats.
  • Effective leadership, training, and collaboration skills.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and support initiatives that are critical to the protection and security of data and systems.
  • Design new service offerings and enhancements to existing services related to State and Federal privacy regulations, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and privacy best practices.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the LHRIC Data Privacy Team.
  • Create professional development programs and support services for Data Protection Officers and staff members from participating school districts.
  • Consult with school districts to understand and address their data privacy and security needs,
  • Work collaboratively with Southern Westchester BOCES, LHRIC managers, senior school administrators, designated Data Protection Officers, and other data privacy and security leaders.
  • Represent Lower Hudson Regional Information Center on the NY statewide Data Privacy and Security Service team and actively participates in the creation of statewide privacy resources.
  • Develop and provide training and awareness presentations on privacy best practices and legal compliance for Data Protection Officers, senior school administrators, and other organizational leaders associated with data privacy and security.
  • Provide input on the annual budget and monthly profit and loss reviews.

CIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Either: (a) Associate’s Degree and five (5) years of work experience that involved reviewing, evaluating, implementing and assuring compliance with information technology security programs and procedures; or (b) Bachelor’s Degree and (3) three years of work experience as described in (a) above.
  • SUBSTITUTION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security or closely related field will substitute for one (1) year of the work experience described above.

 

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. This is a provisional appointment, and you will be required to take a civil service exam for this title and be reachable on the civil service list.
